The engine speed lever and choke control lever are separate controls:
- The engine speed lever is easy to use - there is no need to worry about pushing too far and engaging the choke as on single throttle/choke lever systems.
- The choke lever is spring loaded so the operator cannot accidentally operate the tractor with the choke on.
Engine hood opens wide for easy access to service points:
- It is easy to inspect and clean the engine area.
- Important service points are exposed.
- Cleanout ports designed into the engine shroud make cleaning the engine cooling fins easy.

The 42-in. (107-cm) mower deck is a two-spindle design with heavy-duty characteristics:
- Two adjustable mower wheels are standard equipment for a smooth mowing job, even in rolling terrain.
- The flexible discharge chute minimizes property and mower deck damage.
- No tools are required to go from mulching (with mulch cover) to side discharge to rear bagging.
- A mulch cover is an optional attachment.
- A high-performance mulching blade is available to enhance mulching performance.
The mower deck has a rolled lip to provide greater strength and protection. The rugged 13 gauge, 0.09-in. (2.3-mm) steel-deck mower will provide years of dependable mowing.
The strength of the deck is enhanced by the top-discharge design:
- A section of material below the discharge opening ties the front and rear of the deck together.
- When using the rear bagger, material flows upward through the deck to provide highly effective bagging and a reduced chance of plugging.
- For this reason, no Power Flow™ collection system is available for the 42-in. (107-cm) mower.

Using RIO
CAUTION: Children or bystanders may be injured by rotating blades. Before traveling forward or rearward:
- Carefully check the area around the machine.
- Disengage the mower before backing up.
NOTE: Backing up while the mower is engaged is strongly discouraged. RIO should be used only when operating another attachment or when the operator deems it necessary to reposition the machine with the mower engaged.
- Stop forward travel.
- Look behind the machine to be sure there are no bystanders.
- Push and hold in the RIO switch while depressing the reverse pedal slightly.
NOTE: If the mower or other attachment stops while repositioning the machine, return the attachment engagement switch to the off position. Start engine and engage mower. Begin again with step 2.
- Release the RIO switch and reposition the machine as the machine begins to move rearward.
- Resume forward travel. The mower or other attachment should continue operating.
- Repeat procedure to position the machine again.

Utility carts can be used to haul a variety of materials:

The 10P Utility Cart is designed, painted, and decaled to be compatible with other John Deere equipment:
- 10-cu ft (283-L), heavy-duty, 0.25-in. (6.4-mm) thick poly bed
- Will not dent or rust
- 15x6 tubeless pneumatic tires with turf tread for maximum traction
- Easy, hands-free foot pedal dump release
- Steep dump angle for complete emptying
A convenient foot pedal dump release kit, LP48017, which now comes standard on all 10P and 17P carts is available to retrofit existing poly carts. This kit allows the operator to use both hands to lift the cart bed for more natural and efficient unloading.

- Cart has premium molded polypropylene box construction.
- Polypropylene body will not rust or dent, staying new looking longer.
- 0.75- x 2-in. (19- x 51-mm) stake pockets are molded in to make addition of side extensions easy.
- Two vertical 0.75-in. (19-mm) molded channels on each side allow for easy use of dividers to separate the box into two or three compartments.
- Ribs in box bottom add strength and prevent a shovel from hitting bolts when emptying the cart.
- Sloped tailgate design makes emptying the box easier; no tailgate to loosen or remove.
- Styling is compatible with other John Deere equipment.
- 16x6.5 pneumatic tires with turf tread give good flotation, shock absorption, and minimal rolling resistance.

Deluxe smart connector
The John Deere MowerPlus deluxe smart connector wirelessly links some 100 and 200 Series Tractor models and Z500 Series ZTrak™ Mowers to the MowerPlus app on a mobile device:
- No tools are needed for installation.
- Detailed setup instructions are included.
- The connector sends information to the MowerPlus app via Bluetooth® wireless technology when the tractor key switch is on or off, and the mobile device app is running within range.
- The wireless connector and app work together to offer helpful information.
Equipment features available for viewing on the MowerPlus app include:
- Tractor engine hours automatically synchronized to the app
- In-app maintenance reminders and log, based on engine hours
- Fuel level - even when away from the tractor, the app remembers information from the last synchronization, such as the fuel level.
- When thinking ahead about Saturday morning mowing, the operator can make sure the tractor is fueled and ready to go.
- Help to determine the best time to mow
- Expert pre-mow optimization tips
- Maintenance walk-through instructions
The operator is able to visit their device’s app store to see new app features as they are added.
Since the smart connector communicates instrument cluster information, future app releases will provide additional operating recommendations and notifications.
Smart connector, wiring harness, and twist ties
One end of the wiring harness plugs into the back of the fuel gauge. The other ends plug into the smart connector and the tractor's wiring harness. The Z500 Mowers come with a dedicated connectivity connector, so the new wire harness is not needed.
Compatibility and requirements
MowerPlus deluxe smart connector (BUC10929) is for use with the following lawn tractors and ZTrak Mowers:
- All S120, S130, S160, S170, and S180 Tractors
- Model year 2021 and newer S240 Tractors (serial number 880,001-)
- Model year 2021 and newer Z515E, Z530M, Z530R, and Z545R (serial number 010,001-)
The MowerPlus smart connector requires the MowerPlus app on a mobile device to use. The John Deere MowerPlus app can be found in the mobile device’s app store.
